This weekend my hubby helped me make wood crates... I fell in love with these from the Crafty Sisters. We have an old fence that I love very much, but it is falling apart, so I used the broken boards for my crates. I then used those bright purple, pink, and yellow eggs, primed them and painted them to look realistic...

ReplyDeleteSeveral years ago now, I bought kind of creme colored, speckled egg candles. I nestled them in straw in an egg collection basket I had. I then placed them on top of the fridge next to a big metal rooster.
There's a neat (at least to me) story behind my rooster. My son Brandon (son #3) gave it to me one year for Christmas. The youth group had had a white elephant gift exchange. However, when you opened your gift, you could then exchange it with anybody elses already opened gift - whether they wanted you to or not. Brandon said he was going to keep his, and they kept reminding him he didn't have to. He had then informed them "my mom has farm kind of stuff in her kitchen and I'm going to give this to her for Christmas!"
He was right - I REALLY like the metal rooster. Even more so due to how it came to be mine ;-}
So I sat the basket of egg candles up next to the rooster.
Not long after that my nephew Andy was over. His mom's parents and grand parents live on a working farm. "Umm mmmm Aunt Cheryl, you do know that it's the chickens not the roosters that lay the eggs and then watch the nest, right?" (with a big ole sassy grin on his face).
"Think about it for a minute Andy, if it was the roosters that watched the nests, those eggs would be flamable, wouldn't they?!?!!!"
"Chuckle, chuckle, you've got a point there!!! snicker, snicker. So, can we light those eggs?"
"NO!!!!"
"But all of us would qualify as roosters. chuckle, chuckle"
This has got to be my favorite thing you have made! I LOVE them!
