Dishing on the Dishes...

A Royal find... The Colonial Homestead collection... I found these dishes while junkin' at "Classy Rags" a local thrift store. Each dish has an item used in the home. I fell in love with these dishes, and left them unpurchased... Yep you read right, I didn't buy them. Of course if I would have bought them I would have got 25% off, because it was Wednesday {Customer Appreciation Day}... BUT on Thursday I just has to have them! What's a girl to do {besides kick herself} she calls her dad and asks if he is old enough to get a senior citizen discount... hahahaha how's that for a phone call... He is exactly 55 so yep, he gets 10% off, I pick him up we drive over and as soon as he sees the dishes he says, "I ate on these dishes when I was a kid"... Apparently they were sold in the grocery store, if you purchased a certain amount of food you could get a dish, his grandfather would purchase them, and give them to his daughter {my grandma}... So over 50 years later I end up falling in love with the very dishes my grandma loved. I now have my parents on the hunt for more plates and mugs... I NEED more!

The pictures don't do them justice, they are a beautiful shade of green!

Are you kidding me? That's all my grandma had/has in her cupboards. She got them at the grocery store too! Crazy! They are fun dishes!

I'm glad you were able to get them. I've never seen or heard of them before, but they are quite charming!

I have a small collection of these too! My grandmother's sister gave me what she had when I got married almost 15 years ago. Every now and then I'll find a piece and add it to my collection! It's so cool that somebody else appreciates the same things, right!
