Dresser Dilemma

Here is my dresser dilemma... We have too many... HA... We sold our bedroom furniture you can kinda get a MESSY glimpse of it here. It was huge dark and very boxy, {my hubby went picked it out and bought it without me ever seeing it}... It was beautiful, but I am more a shabby antique kinda girl... After 4 years we sold it to my in laws who were going to buy new bedroom furniture... They gave us half of what we paid for it and I have only spent a quarter of that money on replacing it... I still want to paint my walls and do some other decorative things... BUT, now I have too many dressers... I bought this beauty with my parents last Saturday at a thrift shop for 75 bucks....

The very same Saturday my hubby bought this green already "shabbied" dresser off craigslist 150 bucks... {um think I think it was a bit high, but no stripping, sanding, and painting for me} anyway dilemma #1 both dressers were about the same height, we needed a "tall" dresser...

Went Sunday and found this AMAZING old pine dresser 60 bucks {on top} made completely out of scraps, I fell in with it... We stacked them, there now we have height... But it looks like stacked dressers duh... Went to Lowes bought some trim and had them color match the green paint...
Came home cut the trim added it to the bottom of the pine dresser and I painted card stock to put in the insets of the wood. There at least we made it uniform...
Hubby then said he liked the trim but not the inset green blocks...
Although dilemma #2, I really really wanted to use this pine cutie as a night stand.

Then, yesterday... Hubs and Johnny went to a local thrift shop "Second hand Rose" and bought this "tall" dresser 50 bucks... If you enlarge you will see though it would have been cute and done except someone used it for a spray paint target and then set what I can assume was paint cans on the drawers {nice deep indented circles}... So hubby hit it with a sander to give a more shabby look.
Dilemma #3 it competes with my door head board {that is another post}... I believe this cutie is going to replace the stacked dressers, the pine one will become my night stand, and now the green one needs a home... ugh....
P.S. I know the TV/direct TV box isn't attractive, BUT I have to fall asleep to the TV so it stays...

Wow, that IS alot of dressers! I love them all! Stacking them is such a clever idea. Looks great!
Also, I need the TV on to fall asleep too. Drives my husband crazy!

Jeez and I thought I was crazy with dressers :) But you did in all of them. I love the little one as a side table good idea. Keep it. I would get rid of the green one also.
Now for the tall one since it competes with your door and headboard..maybe you could drybrush paint it with a light grey or even paint it over with grey and then have hubby hit it with the sander again- that way it is still the shabby you like but a bit more color than white. Can't wait to see.

i think you got some really great deals, Jenny (maybe too many!!). I love the last dresser the most, but don't have any idea what you can do about it not matching your headboard. Then again, I don't think everything has to match.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do! :-)

Well, since we already talked about this...I think the tall one needs to be moved, not beside the bed, put little cutie beside your bed and remove the green one completely. Maybe ship it to me!!

I'm loving all your dressers. I think you should keep them all AND THEN you'd have a good excuse to go shopping for more clothes! ;> I can't wait to see your completed bedroom transformation.
God's blessings,
Sarah :D

Morning Jen :->

My suggestions, feel free to ignore them if you wish ;-p

~ The dresser shown first in your posting, would work great as a side board in the dining room. I know that you do have a side board in there, it showed in the family picture you showed at Christmas. Don't know if you have room for two in there ... pick which one you like better?

~ I like your creativity of stacking the two dressers, but agreed with Spike about not liking the green added to the top one.

But I also agree with Elise that the top one, unstacked, green removed, would fit much better next to your bed than the one you currently have sitting there.

Also, if you really do want to paint it, not leave it wood grained, then what about using a light coat of Tracey's Robin Egg blue paint?

~ The extra tall dresser, which your husband and son picked up, and you currently having sitting next to your bed - put it where you currently have the two dressers double stacked. Also, I'd suggest you either paint the handles on it brownish (or blueish if you do go with the Robin's egg blue for the other cupboard) or something - help give the chest some contrast/eye points of interests.

~ So that then leaves you with the green currently bottom dresser. Do you have room in your bedroom to keep the green dresser in there as well as the tall one (which would now be holding the TV) and the short one (which would now be beside your bed)?

And if you do paint the brown/wood one Robin's egg blue, and also the handles of the tall whitish ones Robin's egg blue, then you should probably also re-paint the green one ... Maybe first paint it very thick white. Then a thin layer of brown. Then sand the brown so that the white is showing (whereas the tall dresser is white with the brown showing). And then paint it's handles the Robin's egg blue color as well.

~ This concludes this edition of Cheryl B.'s suggestions .... hopefully they at least made sense.

Wow! Too many dressers is not altogether a bad thing. I love how the shabby one turned out and if you stack them, I would paint them the same color. But the worn wood is just so pretty and would look great as a nightstand. I say stick with the plan and sell the green one or make your hubby do it!

Well silly.... buy a nightstand and stack that on top of the two you've got stacked, and cut it apart so your t.v. fits inside :-P When the door is closed, it looks like 3 stacked dressers~
